Common LG Appliance Problems We Fix
LG appliances fail in patterns we know well. Here are the issues we see most often in Escondido homes.
Refrigerator Not Cooling
LG French Door and InstaView fridges commonly stop cooling due to a failed linear compressor, a frozen evaporator coil, or a faulty thermistor. We test compressor start relay resistance and verify refrigerant flow before quoting — a linear compressor swap is expensive, and we confirm it is actually needed.
Washer Won't Drain or Spin
LG ThinQ and WM front-loaders throw OE or LE codes when the drain pump is clogged, the door latch fails, or the hall sensor loses signal. Top-load WT models often need a new rotor or stator assembly. We pull the live error code and pressure-test the pump before ordering parts.
Dryer Not Heating
LG DLGX and DLEX dryers lose heat when the heating element shorts, a thermal fuse trips from restricted airflow, or the gas valve coils fail on gas models. We measure element resistance, clear the exhaust path, and replace blown fuses and coils as a set.
Dishwasher Not Cleaning Properly
LG LDF and LDT dishwashers deliver weak wash cycles when QuadWash spray arms clog, the diverter motor fails, or the water inlet valve restricts flow. We disassemble and flush the spray arms, then pressure-test the inlet valve to confirm the root cause.
Oven Not Reaching Temperature
LG LREL and LRGL ranges fail to reach temperature when a bake element shorts, the temperature sensor drifts, or the control board relay sticks. We measure rack temperature with a calibrated probe and trace the fault before replacing any components.
Ice Maker Not Working
LG ice makers freeze up or stop cycling due to a clogged defrost drain, a failed ice maker assembly, or low refrigerant. We thaw the unit, verify drain flow, test the ice maker motor, and confirm proper freezer temperature before closing the job.
Error Codes on Display
LG uses codes like OE (drain), LE (motor), IE (inlet), CL (child lock), and F errors on ranges. We access service mode to pull the live code, isolate the failed sensor or component, and replace it with an OEM part rather than clearing and hoping.
Refrigerator Leaking Water
Most LG fridge leaks trace back to a clogged defrost drain pan, a cracked water line at the inlet valve, or a worn door gasket letting warm air in. We follow the leak path before opening anything, replacing only the failed component.
Washer Vibrating Excessively
LG front-load machines vibrate when shock absorbers wear, suspension springs stretch, or the rotor bolts loosen. We rebalance the drum, replace worn shocks, and verify spin balance at full speed before leaving.
